Know Your Rights
Chicago Municipal Code 4-6-230 heavily regulates private booting. If they broke these rules, your boot is illegal.
Signage Requirements
Signs must be 24"x36", posted at all entrances, and visible 14 days before booting begins.
Fee Caps
The maximum legal fee is $170. They MUST accept credit cards and provide a receipt.
The 10-Minute Rule
The 10-minute grace period applies if you leave the lot. If you break lot rules (like parking in a handicapped spot without a placard), they can boot you immediately.
Immediate Removal
If you return before the boot is attached, they must remove it for FREE immediately.
Address Lookup Tool
Some Chicago wards have completely banned private booting. Use our tool with your address to see if you're in a "No-Boot" zone.
Predatory Tactics Wall
Don't be a victim to these common (and often illegal) practices.
Booting Occupied Vehicles
If anyone is in the car, booting is strictly prohibited. (Pets don't count, unfortunately).
Obscured Signs
Signs hidden behind bushes or poorly lit at night are a violation of the ordinance.
The "Patron Only" Trap
Some lots boot customers who walk off-property for even a minute. Document your receipt!
